Three quarters of this job is the office. Making sure every person here has what they need before they have to ask, and making the space somewhere people actually want to be. The other quarter is the systems underneath it: Rippling, the food vendors, and building the processes that don't exist yet. That part grows over time.
We're not looking for someone to execute a list we hand them. We're looking for someone who walks in, sees the six things that are wrong, fixes four of them that week, and tells us which two need a decision.
Engineers move desks here. CFO takes out the recycling. What we're actually asking for is ownership: if something's off and you noticed it, it's yours until it's fixed, whether that's a chair or a process nobody has written down.
What you'll do
The 75%: everyday operations
- Own the space. Supplies, repairs, the building, the things that break at 8am.
- Own food. Snacks, lunch ordering, coffee.
- Own the feel of the place. Furniture, light, sound, plants, walls. The thousand small choices that add up to whether a room is pleasant to spend eleven hours in. We just moved into a new office, so there's a lot of room for creativity.
- Onboarding logistics.
- Events. Team dinners, offsites, all-hands logistics, celebrations, the occasional customer or investor in the office.
The 25%: the systems underneath
Starting with a handful and expanding as you earn it:
- Rippling. Onboarding and offboarding, device and license provisioning, keeping employee data clean.
- Food and office vendors. Who we use, what we're paying, what's working and what isn't.
- Building systems around workplace operations. Most of how this office runs currently lives in someone's head. We want it written down, automated where it should be, and owned by one person.
You won't arrive knowing all of it, and a lot of it is already automated. What we want is someone who isn't afraid to take control, call people out, learn new things, and make decisions.
What this grows into
This is a startup and the job is deliberately not fixed. The path we have in mind, if you want it: the office first, then the operating stack, then business operations more broadly. Budget, systems, whatever the company needs next that nobody currently holds. How fast that happens is set by you, not by a calendar.
Two things have to be true for it to happen. You have to be decisive and bring a recommendation, and be willing to be wrong in public. And you have to be reliable at the base layer first. Nobody gets handed the next thing while the coffee machine is still broken.
What we're looking for
- Initiative. You find the work. The job is defined by what you notice, not by what's assigned.
- Decisiveness. You make the reversible calls yourself and only escalate the expensive ones. You'd rather move and correct than wait and be certain.
- Taste. You have an eye. You can tell the difference between a room that's fine and a room that's good, and you care about the difference. Show us something you made better.
- Range. You're equally willing to spend an afternoon on chairs and an afternoon working out why offboarding keeps missing a step.
- Bad news early. When something's broken or late, it goes in your first sentence. This is a company value, not a preference.
- Discretion. You'll sit near comp, contracts, and personnel data.
Requirements and nice-to-haves
- Experience running an office, workplace, or operations function. Ideally somewhere small enough that you were the whole function.
- Comfortable owning software systems end to end. Rippling or a similar HR platform is a plus, but the ability to learn a system in a week is the actual requirement.
- NYC-based, in the office five days a week.
- Event or hospitality background preferred.
- A real point of view about physical space.
Compensation & Logistics
- Total compensation: $120K ($100K base + $20K equity).
- Schedule: Full-time, in office 5 days a week.
- Location: New York City.
- Benefits: Lunch covered, full health, vision, and dental insurance, 401(k) matching, commuter benefits, HSA/FSA, and team offsites.
