Does Ana work with self-hosted GitLab?

Yes. The connector supports both GitLab.com and self-hosted GitLab instances. An admin simply whitelists the self-hosted GitLab domain in the TextQL admin console and provides a PAT or configures OAuth. Ana can then query any group or project the token has access to.

Can Ana read GitLab CI variables?

Ana can read CI variable metadata such as names, scopes, and masking flags, but masked variable values are never returned by the GitLab API so Ana cannot see them. This protects secrets while still letting Ana reason about pipeline configuration.

How are GitLab tokens secured?

Personal access tokens and OAuth refresh tokens are encrypted in TextQL's credential vault and injected by our egress proxy at the network layer. Ana's Python sandbox only sees a helper function — never the raw token. Token refresh happens outside the sandbox.

Can I use a project-scoped token?

Yes. GitLab lets you create project access tokens scoped to individual projects, and TextQL honors that scope. You can store multiple project tokens and let different TextQL user groups use different credentials for audit clarity.

Is GitLab data cached?

By default no — Ana fetches live data per question so answers reflect the current state of your projects. Optional short-lived session caching can be enabled to speed up multi-step analyses without introducing stale results.
